Carrara marble quarries with tasting of “Lardo di Colonnata” and “Candia Wine”

 With this tour we propose the visit of one of the  marble quarries in Carrara where to observe the machinery used today for marble excavation, and especially to relive the history of the famous white marble: the majesty of the nature, and the effort of those men who sculptured it.

During the quarry tour the visitors will go back to the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, trying to understand where the David of Michelangelo, the Mose, the Pietà etc. originated from, together with the numerous antique and contemporary works made with Carrara the white marble The visit will with the presentation of the old quarry excavation methods: tools and machines used during the last century.

The visitors will later enter the heart of the quarry to see the modern quarry machines:  the marble cutting blades, the diamond wire, bulldozer and excavators. The experts  will illustrate the various types of Carrara marble and how it is used.

After the visit we will reach “Colonnata” a small village where you will relax by tasting the “quarrymen breakfast” with the famous “lardo di colonnata” and the typical products of the region.

Early in the afternoon we will eventually reach the Apuan Hills for food and wine tasting in the Candia area.
