Meeting and departure for San Gimignano, a beautiful medieval village, designated as UNESCO World Heritage site.
San Gimignano’s towers will conquer you and will bring you to the Middle Ages: you could visit the Cathedral and the Gallery. You could also go up the Torre Grossa to dominate the beauty of the countryside around Siena, walk between the olive trees of the Rocca di Montestaffoli, visit the Torture Museum or the Town Hall. You could also profit of some leisure time allowed to you to have lunch with typical products, eventually tasting the saffron, and to drink the most famous wine of San Gimignano: the “Vernaccia”.
The departure for Volterra is scheduled in the early afternoon. Volterra is a gem overlooking the “Val di Cecina” and whose gaze extends to the sea, the cradle of Etruscan, Roman, medieval and Renaissance civilizations, for a “journey” into the story covering a period of about three thousand years, of which today we have many artistic and monumental evidences.
The best way to appreciate Volterra is to walk through its streets enjoying the beautiful Piazza dei Priori, the town hall, the Cathedral, the entrance gates of the walls, the churches, and the evocative ruins of the Roman Theater, up to the beautiful park dominated by the Medici fortress with its Rocca del Mastio. On the way back you could visit an handicrafts and alabaster shop and go over the “balze” created by the erosion of wind and water.
